3 types of kilns with different heating and energy source

“ceramic kiln” an essential tool for producing ceramic works. Without it, your beautifully crafted clay cannot turn into a fine ceramic work.

There are variety of kiln to choose such as wood, coal, gas and electric. The most common types of kilns are

  1. Wood Firing Kilnmust take into consideration the firing temperature and ventilation of ashes. There are some advantages of the wood firing kiln including unique effects to the ceramic works. Some build up a lot of different runny ash effects.
  2. Gas Firing kiln gives high temperature with and without smoke. The gas firing kiln is convenient, easy to control the heat and accommodates various sizes of ceramic works. The flame can be directed to different area making it’s easy to control the heat. However, there must be space leaving for ventilation in case of leakage. The gas firing kiln uses a fuel such as liquefied petroleum gas or LPG.
  3. Electric Firing kilnis one of the safest methods for firing which can exceed to 1,200-1,300 Celsius. The kiln is still clean after firing process. The temperature can be adjusted as desired. There are many types of oxidizing in different shapes, circle kiln, square kiln, top loading kiln, front loading kiln. However, it is not designed for reduction firing process as can be achieved by the gas firing kiln which can decay the kiln wire. In the electric firing kiln, the wire will be connected to the electric circuit which is installed at the kiln wall. The wire will turn red and heat up when the circuit is circulated.
