Usage
- Smooth and remove excess slip : Use the smooth surface of the wooden rib against the piece while the wheel is spinning to remove slip and excess water. This helps to compact the clay, making it stronger, and creates a smooth, even surface.
- Push and shape curves and vessels : Each wooden rib in the set has different curves (including rounded, long curves, and oval shapes). Potters use these curves to support the surface from the inside or outside, to pull and slide the clay outwards into a jar or vase shape, or inwards to a desired form.
- Trim the base of vessels : The pointed or straight-cut edges of the wooden rib can be used to carve away excess clay at the base of the vessel where it meets the potter's wheel. This trims the base line cleanly before removing the piece from the wheel.
