PRIB-002 Rubber Rib Set (3 pieces) Ribs are tools used for shaping pottery on a wheel and for smoothing surfaces.
The rubber material is soft and highly flexible, unlike rigid wooden or metal ribs.
The main functions of rubber ribs are "to smooth the surface of the workpiece to the utmost" and "to compress and densify the clay" for both hand-building and wheel-thrown pieces. The uses of each shape are as follows:
1. Oval Rubber Rib: Suitable for smoothing the inner curved surfaces of small to medium-sized pieces.
2. Round-ended Parallel Edge Rubber Rib: Suitable for smoothing the outer walls of vases or cylindrical cups. The rounded end can also be used to smooth the curved bottom section of the piece.
3. Wide Crescent Moon Rubber Rib: Suitable for large pieces. The large convex side is used to smooth from the bottom of the piece upwards to shape it and quickly remove fingerprints from wheel-throwing over a wide area.
* The rubber rib curves as directed by your hand. You can use your thumb and index finger to bend the rubber rib more or less to match the shape of the workpiece.
