PRIB-002 Rubber Rib Set (3 pieces). Ribs are tools used to help shape pottery on a wheel and smooth the surface.
Rubber ribs are soft and highly flexible, unlike hard wooden or metal ribs. The main functions of rubber ribs are to "smooth the surface of the work to the utmost" and "compress the clay to make it dense" in both hand-building and wheel-throwing. The uses of each shape are as follows:
- Oval rubber rib: Suitable for smoothing the inner curved surface of small to medium-sized pieces.
- Rounded-end parallelogram rubber rib: Suitable for smoothing the outer wall of straight cylindrical vases or cups. The rounded end can also be used to trim the curve at the bottom of the piece effectively.
- Wide crescent-shaped rubber rib: Suitable for larger pieces. Use the large curved side to smooth from the bottom of the piece upwards to shape and quickly remove fingerprints from wheel-throwing over a wide area.
* You can use your thumb and forefinger to bend the rubber rib more or less according to the shape of the workpiece.
