Press molding for bowls and cups: Used for placing a flat clay slab into the hemispherical cavity, then using fingers, a sponge, or a rib tool to press the clay firmly against the inner curved surface of the mold to form bowls, soup cups, or lids for containers, ensuring precise and consistent round shapes.

Creating joined spherical parts: Potters can press clay into two hemispherical cavities. Once the clay has stiffened slightly, score and slip the edges, then join the two halves to create hollow spherical pieces (e.g., clay balls, spherical doll bodies, or decorations).

Shaping the outer convex surface: In addition to internal pressing, some techniques involve inverting the wooden block to use its rounded back surface as a drape mold for shaping clay.
