PETC-414 Square Bat ⌀18 cm. BTH is a grooved bat designed to attach to a pottery wheel, facilitating the throwing and transfer of ceramic pieces.
Key Uses
-
Used as a throwing base on the wheel: This bat is designed to lock onto the head of an electric pottery wheel. The four semicircular notches allow it to securely attach to bat pins, ensuring the bat remains firmly in place and level with the wheel while speeding up for throwing.
-
Moving fresh pieces without distortion: Once throwing is complete, potters can immediately lift this bat from the wheel to air dry the piece without needing to support or directly handle the vessel (while the clay is still soft). This prevents the work from twisting, sagging, or losing its shape.
-
Supports hand-building techniques: In addition to the pottery wheel, it can also be used as a portable board for freehand sculpting, slab rolling, or as a versatile surface for resting pieces in the studio.
Highlights
-
Square design with rounded corners and grooved locking: The rounded corners enhance safety, preventing injury to the potter's hands while the wheel spins at high speed. The four-way notches allow for quick and easy switching of locking angles to standard bat pins.
-
Wood absorbs water, easy release: The bat is made from medium-density fiberboard (MDF or similar) which suitably absorbs moisture from the bottom of clay pieces. As the clay dries (leather-hard), the bottom of the vessel will gradually loosen and easily detach from the bat without tearing.
