PCS-6 Assorted Aluminum Press Molds for Ceramics (Set of 6 Pieces)
Aluminum press molds—commonly known as “clay cutters”—are popular tools in ceramics and clay crafting. They allow you to quickly create repeated shapes with consistent size and clean edges.
Basic Instructions
- Prepare the clay: Roll the clay into a flat slab at your desired thickness (slightly thicker than the depth of the mold for best results).
- Pressing: Place the mold onto the clay and press straight down on the handle so the cutting edge slices through the clay into the desired shape (e.g., star, circle, square).
- Releasing the piece: Once fully pressed, push the center plunger to eject the clay piece from the mold. The result is a clean, well-shaped form.
Extra Tips for a Clean Finish
- Prevent sticking:
If the clay is very sticky, lightly dust the mold with powder or apply a thin layer of oil before pressing. This helps release the clay easily and preserves the surface. - Refining edges:
After removing the piece, there may be slight burrs along the edges. Use a damp sponge or your finger with a bit of water to gently smooth them out. - Creating textures:
In addition to cutting out shapes, you can lightly press the mold onto the clay surface to create a low-relief texture without fully cutting through.
