C-26#08 Wood Rib or Shaping Tool is a tool designed for compressing, smoothing, and shaping ceramic pieces, including both hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery.
- Primary Uses (Smoothing and Shaping): Used for smoothing the surface of the clay while the wheel is spinning, to create a consistent, even surface, remove fingerprints, and help push the clay to form smooth, curved shapes (such as the belly of a bowl or the curve of a vase) for a refined finish.
- Removing Excess Water and Air Bubbles: Used to scrape off excess water from the surface of the piece during shaping to prevent the clay from becoming too wet or soft and collapsing, and to help compress the clay to make it more dense.
- Scraping Excess Clay from the Base of the Piece: The straight edge or angled part of the rib can be easily used to scrape off excess clay from the base of the piece that is attached to the wheel.
