Key Uses
-
Smooth and Remove Excess Slip: Used by pressing against the surface of the work while the wheel is spinning to remove slip and excess water from the vessel wall. This creates a smooth surface and helps to compress the clay, making it denser and stronger.
-
Curve and Control Shape: The rounded edge of the wooden rib is ideal for supporting and pushing the surface from the inside or outside, helping to slide the clay outwards or inwards. This aids in shaping jars, vases, or bowls to achieve fluid and consistent curves.
-
Trim Base and Refine Edges: The pointed tip and sharp angle of the wooden rib can be used to carve away excess clay at the base of the vessel where it meets the wheel. This creates a clean, sharp base and makes it easier to scrape off excess clay before trimming the piece.
Highlights
-
Short Size 5x13 cm, Highly Maneuverable: Its short and compact dimensions allow it to be easily inserted and controlled for shaping the inside of narrow vessels or small to medium-sized pieces.
-
Smooth Hardwood, Won't Scratch Clay: Made from dense natural wood with a smooth, splinter-free finish. It has an appropriate thickness for a comfortable grip and is resistant to soaking in slip, not easily warping during work.
