The C-15L#2 Long Rib is a 5.5x27 cm shaping tool of extra length, designed for supporting and smoothing the walls of tall ceramic pieces on a pottery wheel.
Applications
- Smoothing Tall Pieces: Due to its long blade, potters can use it to clear the surface, squeeze out slip and excess water from the walls of tall vessels (such as large vases, jars, or pitchers) smoothly and evenly from the base to the rim in one go.
- Straightening and Shaping Cylinders: The long, straight edge is commonly used to brace against the outside of a piece to control and pull up the clay walls into a perfectly straight cylinder, preventing warping or leaning.
- Strengthening Clay Body: The wide and long contact surface helps distribute pressure evenly, compressing the clay molecules vertically to achieve consistent density. This reduces the risk of tall pieces slumping or collapsing while rotating.
