This 45-degree slab angle cutter (Clay Bevel Cutter) is used to precisely bevel the edges of a clay slab to a 45-degree angle, preparing them to be joined to form a 90-degree box or square shape. The structure is made of wood with a central hole for gripping with a finger, and sharp steel wires are stretched across both sides.

 Correct Usage

  • 45-degree Bevel Cutting:
  1. Place the rolled-out clay slab on a workbench.
  2. Place the straight edge of the wooden tool parallel to the workbench surface, ensuring the slanted wire rests on the edge of the clay slab.
  3. Apply pressure and slide the tool along the length of the clay slab. The wire will instantly cut the clay into a perfectly consistent 45-degree slope along the entire edge.
  • Dual-sided Design: * The tool is designed with wires stretched on both the left and right sides to accommodate both right-handed and left-handed users, or for cutting in both forward and backward directions without needing to flip the tool.

Key Benefits for Slab Building:

  • Creates Stronger Box Joints: If two clay slabs with straight 90-degree edges are joined, the surface area for attaching slip is minimal, leading to easy breakage. However, by beveling both edges to 45 degrees with this tool and joining them (Miter Joint), the contact surface area for adhesion increases. This results in stronger box structures, square vases, or clay houses, improved stability, and significantly reduces cracking at the corners.
  • Recommended Clay Consistency: This tool is best suited for clay slabs in the "soft leather-hard" stage. The wire will glide smoothly through the clay, and the edges will maintain their shape without distorting. After use, wipe off any clay residue from the wood and wires, then air dry in the shade.
