Functions by Shape
- Wide Paddle Wooden Knife : Used for cutting clay slabs, trimming the edges of vessels, or scraping off excess clay in long, even planes without creating deep marks like metal blades.
- Double-ended Loop Tool : A highlight tool with one oval loop head and one narrow rectangular loop head. Used for scraping, gouging, and trimming small amounts of clay. Ideal for creating grooves and refining detailed carved patterns.
- Curved-tip Wooden Tool with Notch : One end has a slender, curved slope for blending clay joints. The special feature is the right-angled notch at the base of the head, used for checking thickness or scoring and creating sharp edges on the workpiece.
- Pointed Wooden Tool : Used for sketching patterns, carving deep lines, drilling small holes, or scoring the clay surface to prepare it for slip application and joining clay pieces.
- Fish-tail Wooden Tool with Serrated Edge : Used for pressing parallel wavy patterns or scoring the clay surface to join pieces. The flat, rounded bottom end resembles a spatula, used for pressing, kneading, and smoothing the workpiece surface.
Recommendation: The handles are mostly made of natural wood. After use, clean off clay residue with a damp sponge or cloth and "air dry completely in the shade." Do not soak in water to prevent the wood from swelling, delaminating, or decaying.
