PSND-101 3M Sanding Sponge. Used for deburring, smoothing, and final finishing of workpieces before bisque firing. The sponge is highly flexible, allowing it to bend and conform smoothly to the curved surfaces of cups, bowls, or vases without distorting the workpiece.
Separation of use by grit level (from coarse to fine):-
Red - SUPERFINE (approx. 320 - 400 grit): * Use: Quickly smooths rough spots, removes sharp edges and thick clay seams.

Blue - ULTRAFINE (approx. 500 - 600 grit): * Use: All-purpose size. Used to remove scratches from metal tool marks and to level the clay surface evenly.
- Green - MICROFINE (approx. 1200 - 1500 grit) [Item in main image]: * Use: Extremely fine. Used for the final smoothing step to make the workpiece surface silky smooth and create a subtle sheen before firing.
Correct sanding techniques

Dry Sanding: Use only on "completely dry clay (Greenware / Bone-dry)" (do not sand when the clay is still damp). The abrasive particles will easily cut the clay into a fine powder.

Wet Sanding: You can dampen the sponge and wring it out, then rub it over the workpiece surface to deburr. The advantage is that there will be no dust dispersal, and it helps to smooth the workpiece surface perfectly.
Caution: Dry sanding of clay will produce fine silica dust. Always wear a protective mask or choose the damp sanding method for respiratory safety.
