Tips & How to Use:
-
Application: Can be used on wet clay, dry greenware, or soft-fired ceramics at Cone 04.
-
Decoration Techniques: Engobes are often used in various decoration techniques such as Sgraffito and Majolica.
-
Fired Result: Once fired, they produce a matte surface. For brighter colors or if used on dinnerware, apply a clear glaze over them.
-
Glazing Precaution: If engobes are used as a base color, they will affect the outcome of the glaze applied over them.
-
Advantages: Engobes are used to change the surface color of clay without causing cross-contamination and are easy to clean in the studio.
-
Firing Atmosphere: Can be used in both Oxidation and Reduction firing.
Note: Results may vary depending on the clay body, application thickness, firing process, and temperature. All these factors affect the post-firing results. Always test the application with your specific clay and kiln before starting your actual work.
