P-64 Long Handle Sponge
Product Details
- Used to absorb excess water and remove fingerprints from the inside of deep, narrow-necked vessels where a potter's hands or arms cannot reach, especially during wheel-throwing.
-
Absorb standing water at the bottom of tall vases/bottles. When forming deep pieces, water and slip often collect at the bottom of the vessel. If left, the bottom will become soggy, the structure will collapse, or it will sag while turning. This long-handled sponge allows for easy insertion to press and absorb the water from the bottom.
-
Use it to press against the inner clay wall to remove slip stains, rough spots, and fingerprints, making the surface smooth and taut, and ensuring even clay consistency.
-
During the process of narrowing the mouth of a vase, potters insert this sponge inside to act as a "supporting core against pressure" in conjunction with their fingers on the outside. This helps to narrow the bottle's mouth without distortion or tearing of the neck.
Care Tips: After use, thoroughly wash the yellow sponge, shake out excess water, and then "air dry it upright or hang it" to allow the sponge to dry completely. This prevents musty odors and deterioration of the sponge material.
