Hog Bristle Brush #1 is a hard natural bristle brush with very high springiness and strength. In ceramics, it is commonly used for sweeping, clearing clay debris, and applying viscous glazes or paints.

Usage

  • Sweeping dust and clay debris: Due to its hard and springy bristles, it is commonly used for sweeping away dust, raw clay residue, or clay debris from trimming. from bisque ware to thoroughly clean the surface before glazing (because if there is clay dust, the glaze will not adhere to the surface).
  • Applying or stippling thick glazes: Suitable for applying or stippling highly viscous glazes, slip, or underglazes. The stiff hog bristles effectively pick up and spread thick glazes evenly over the surface of the pottery, unlike soft animal hair which would collapse.
  • Creating textured lines: The stiff bristle tips can be pressed or dragged across soft clay surfaces to clearly create rough surface patterns, linear textures, or natural wood grain textures.

Highlights

  • Durable bristles, resistant to abrasion : Natural hog bristles are highly resistant to abrasion against rough ceramic surfaces. The bristles do not shed easily or wear out quickly when working with inorganic substances or minerals in glazes.
  • Flat, square wooden handle for easy grip : The handle is made of hard natural wood, designed to be flat and wide for a firm grip. This allows for stable pressure and reduced wrist strain when rubbing or sweeping thick clay debris.
