PPATEX-305 Clay Spatula (29 cm long)

PPATEX-305 Clay Paddle (29 cm long) is a standard smooth-surface tool used for patting and shaping clay lumps in hand-building, especially for coiling techniques.

Usage

• Shaping and smoothing surfaces: Used for patting soft or leather-hard clay pieces to curve vases, jars, or pots into symmetrical shapes without distortion, or to flatten clay surfaces into desired angles.
• Compacting clay and blending seams: The force from the paddle helps to remove air bubbles hidden within the clay and firmly joins the seams between clay layers (e.g., coiled clay seams) into a dense, strong, continuous mass, reducing the risk of cracks during drying or firing.
• Preparing raw clay before pottery: Used to pat and shape divided raw clay blocks into initial forms (e.g., round, square) before being thrown on a wheel or rolled into slabs.

Highlights

• Smooth wooden surface, leaves no carved marks: Unlike patterned paddles, the contact surface of this wooden paddle is perfectly smooth, allowing for natural, even finishing without leaving any textured marks on the clay.
• 29 cm scale, comfortable grip and good leverage: Made from a single piece of thick hardwood, seamless. The 29 cm length provides an appropriate swing distance. The paddle is well-balanced, and the turned handle offers a firm grip and reduces wrist strain when working with large clay masses.
