PGLZT-304 Mini Dipping Tongs, or scissor-style tongs, have the following usage and maintenance details:

Usage Instructions

  1. Gripping Technique: This model features a "fork" side and a "needle" side.

    • Use the fork side to support the piece from the outside or bottom, acting as a base for the weight.

    • Use the needle side to pierce or support the inside of the piece to lock it firmly in place.

  2. Controlling Grip Pressure: The scissor-style handles allow for precise pressure control, making them ideal for small, delicate pieces. Squeeze just enough to ensure the piece is held securely.

  3. Dipping and Removing Excess Glaze: Dip the piece into the glaze, then lift and gently flick your wrist or rotate the piece slightly to allow excess glaze to flow off evenly, preventing it from pooling in one area.

  4. Releasing the Piece: Carefully place the piece onto a drying rack or stilt. Then, slowly and carefully release your grip to avoid having the needle tip scratch the wet glaze surface.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Clean the Pivot Point: The most important area is the "scissor joint," as glaze often accumulates there. Rinse in clean water while working the hinge back and forth to ensure all residue is removed.

  • Dry Completely: Even with plastic-coated handles, the metal parts should be wiped dry immediately after washing to prevent rust from forming in small crevices.

  • Maintain Needle Sharpness: The key to these tongs is their sharpness, ensuring minimal marks are left on the piece. If the tips become dull, use a fine file or sandpaper to gently sharpen them.

  • Storage: It is recommended to hang the tongs or place them on a separate tray. Do not store them with heavy tools, as the relatively thin arms could bend or lose their shape.
