PPATEX-307 Wooden Hemisphere Mold is a solid wood block with a carved, concave spherical hole, designed for clay forming and ceramic work using the press molding technique.

Usage

  • Press-molding bowls and cups: Used for placing a flat clay slab into the hemisphere hole. Then, use fingers, a sponge, or a rib to press the clay firmly against the inner curved surface of the mold to form vessels such as bowls, soup cups, or container lids, ensuring perfectly round and consistent shapes for every piece.

  • Creating joined spherical parts: Potters can press clay into two separate hemisphere holes, wait for the clay to firm up, then trim the edges, score, apply slip, and join the two parts together to create hollow spherical pieces (e.g., clay balls, round doll bodies, or decorations).

  • Shaping the outer convex surface: In addition to internal press molding, some techniques allow the wooden block to be inverted, using its rounded back surface as a supporting base (drape mold) for shaping the clay.

Highlights

  • Smooth, seamless curved hole: The hemisphere hole is carved and polished to a perfectly smooth finish, resulting in clay pieces that are smooth, beautiful, and free from sharp angles or distortion.

  • Natural wood material, non-stick: Constructed from a solid wood block with stable weight, preventing slipping during use. The wood naturally absorbs moisture from the clay surface. As the clay begins to dry, the piece gradually shrinks and can be easily removed from the mold without sticking.
