Circular Acrylic Ruler with Lines

Often called a Circular Decorating Template or Pottery Measuring Wheel, this tool helps make ceramic decorating more precise and systematic, especially for dividing circular pieces.

Key Uses

1. Dividing Sections:

  • Place the ruler on the inverted rim or base of the piece.

  • Use the radial lines extending from the center to divide the piece into equal sections (e.g., 3, 4, 6, or 8 sections) for consistent pattern application or handle placement on both sides.

2. Finding the Center:

  • Align the concentric circles on the acrylic sheet with the edge of the piece.

  • When the circles on the ruler are parallel to the piece's edge, the center of the ruler will perfectly align with the center of the piece, allowing for accurate drilling or placement of central decorations.

3. Drawing Circles on the Piece:

  • Place the acrylic sheet on the piece while it's on a potter's wheel.

  • Use a pencil or pointed tool to mark through the slots or holes along the circular lines, creating circles of different radii on the piece.

Features and Advantages

  • Transparent: The acrylic material allows visibility of the piece underneath, aiding in measurement and reducing errors.

  • Durable and Easy to Clean: This type of ruler is resistant to moisture from clay and can be easily cleaned of slip residue with water.

  • More Accurate than Eyeballing: It reduces common problems in hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery, such as crooked handles or unevenly spaced designs.
