Pyrometric Cones

Pyrometric Cones Specially formulated ceramic devices shaped like slender pyramids that bend or melt when exposed to a specific amount of heat work (temperature over time) inside a ceramic kiln.

Usage

• Monitoring Heat Work: Placed near a kiln peephole so operators can visually check when the kiln reaches the desired firing heat.
• Three-Cone System: Commonly used in sets of three: a guide cone, a target cone, and a guard (overfire) cone for accurate firing control.
• Correct Setup: Mounted in a plaque or holder with a standard 8-degree slant before placing them into the kiln.

Maintenance

• Keep Dry: Store in a dry environment to prevent atmospheric moisture from affecting their thermal performance.
• Handle with Care: Cones are fragile; handle gently to avoid chipping or breaking prior to use.
• Single-Use Item: Cones melt permanently during firing and cannot be reused.
