Primary Uses

• Smooth and remove excess slip: Used to press against the surface of the piece while the wheel is spinning, to remove excess slip and water from the vessel walls, resulting in a smooth finish and compacting the clay for increased strength and density.

• Shape curves and control form: The rounded edge of the rib is ideal for supporting and pushing the surface from the inside or outside, to push the clay outward or inward, helping to shape jars, vases, or trophies into fluid and consistent curves.

• Trim the base and remove sharp edges: The cut end and pointed angle of the rib can be used to carve away excess clay at the base of the vessel where it meets the wheel, allowing for a clean base trim and easy removal of excess clay before cutting the piece off.
