C-15L#3 Long Turning Stick 4x27 cm. The Long Turning Stick is an exceptionally long shaping tool designed to support and trim the walls of tall pieces during electric pottery wheel throwing.
Usage
- Smooths tall pieces: : Due to the length of the wood, potters can use it to smooth the surface, remove slip and excess water from the walls of tall vessels (such as large vases, jars, or pitchers) evenly and consistently from the base to the rim in one go.
- Blocks straight lines and shapes cylinders: : The long, straight edge is often used to hold against the outside of a piece to control and pull up the clay walls into a perfectly vertical cylinder, ensuring it is not distorted or leaning.
- Strengthens the clay body: : The wide and long contact surface helps distribute pressure evenly, compressing the clay molecules vertically to achieve consistent density. This reduces the risk of tall pieces slumping or collapsing while being thrown.
