AMACO DL-59 Brick Red Glaze

DL-59 Brick Red is a bright, speckled, opaque brick red glaze, with slight translucency where thinly applied. This striking color is ideal for single dipping or for layered applications with other glazes in the DL series.

While measuring specific gravity is not essential for the initial mixing of AMACO Dipping and Layering glazes, if you need to know, the recommended specific gravity for DL-59 Brick Red is 1.58.

Mixing Directions: Wear a NIOSH-approved dust respirator. Pour 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of distilled water into a 2-gallon (7.6 liters) or larger bucket. Avoid inhaling dust while pouring the product into the water. Mix the product until it is smooth and lump-free. For best results, strain the glaze through an 80 Mesh sieve and let it rest overnight. Please refer to the detailed instructions inside the packaging.

Directions: Stir the glaze well before use. Dip Cone 04 (1945°F, 1063°C) bisque ware into the glaze for approximately 1–3 seconds, then lift and invert to drain excess glaze. Fire to Cone 5-6. Store mixed glaze in a tightly sealed container. Test dip thickness before firing. To reduce thickness, add 1 cup (236 mL) of water and retest dipping.

Due to potential variations in raw materials used in the manufacturing process, we recommend conducting a test firing on a test tile before actual use with each new batch number. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available upon request for industrial applications.
