Amaco Cosmos Glaze, color CO-21 Galactic Glacier

AMACO CO-21 Galactic Glacier from the Cosmos Glazes (CO) series, a Crystalline/Phase Glaze for mid to high-fire.

Characteristics and Color Variation

This is a dark-toned glaze that is fluid/runny and produces crystals.

• Cone 5: Produces large crystals with blue and violet highlights on a dark surface.
• Cone 6: The color changes to a bright gold surface.

Application Techniques and Recommendations

• Application: Recommended to apply 4 coats on Cone 04 Bisqueware.
• Ventilation within the piece: For best results, it is recommended to leave the inside or back of the piece unglazed.

Firing Schedule

• Can be fired with a normal medium-speed firing schedule without the need for a special cooling schedule.
• If you want the crystals to grow beautifully and reach the next level, it is recommended to use a controlled cooling schedule to accelerate crystal growth.

Caution Regarding Glaze Running: This glaze has a high tendency to run, so it is recommended to leave approximately 1/2 inch unglazed from the foot. You should also use a drip tray or place a soft firebrick under the kiln shelf to prevent glaze from dripping.

Food Safety

• Although considered food safe after firing according to standards, it is not recommended for direct food contact surfaces due to concerns about surface durability.
