Pottery Clay would like to introduce potters to two essential types of tools that are indispensable for any potter when creating a piece. Let's explore the characteristics of these pottery tools.

  1. Wire or Brass Loop Tools: These tools feature round or curved loops at both ends of a wooden handle, and come in various types. They are used for shaping, scraping, trimming, scooping, and adding details. Some types have a wire or brass loop on only one end, while the other end has a flat wooden blade cut at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, or a wide cut of 30 degrees, allowing potters to choose the most suitable tool for their specific creations.
  2. All-Wood Tools: These come in various shapes and sizes. One end typically has a flat wooden blade cut at an angle of approximately 45 degrees or a straight cut of 90 degrees. The other end is smaller and rounded. These tools are used for cutting, trimming, and smoothing the clay surface, as well as creating surface textures and adding various details.

After use, pottery tools can be maintained by washing them to remove any clay residue and dirt. If they are wire or brass tools, care must be taken to prevent rust by applying oil before storing them. Then, store them neatly in a box or hang them on a wall in an organized manner for convenience during future use.
